Frequently Asked Questions

Color the Quads 5K Run/Color the Quad Kids Color Dash

MAy 21, 2016

What is the color made of?

Toxic paint. Just kidding…it’s a magical fairy dust made from corn starch and food coloring – completely safe and 100% biodegradable. As with any substance, you will want to keep it out of your eyes. If you are overly sensitive (or just want to look cool), you can wear glasses or goggles for your eyes and use a bandana or dust mask for your mouth. (This is especially recommended for our younger runners/walkers who won’t know to close their mouth by a color station.) Heck, you can wear a hazmat suit if you really want to, but you might get hot!

What is the foam made of?

The foam is basically food grade foam bubbles and 100% natural and SAFE. As with any substance, you will want to keep it out of your eyes. Some participants opt to wear the cool sunglasses and super fun bandanna they get in their sway bag to protect their eyes and keep it out of their mouths.

HOW IS THE FOAM ADMINISTERED?  WiLL IT HURT?

No, you will not be hurt at all.  Picture it like getting into a bubble fight and you lost!

Do I have to be a runner to participate?

Nope. Participants will be grouped into the following registration speed categories: Lightening Fast, Pretty Darn Fast, Jogging Briskly, Jogging Not-So-Briskly and Walking. Color the Quads is the best way to have a crazy fun day with friends and family. Bask in the colorful world created just for you!

Are kids allowed?

Yepper! The Color the Quads Kids Color Dash sponsored by American Bank & Trust (400 yard dash and one mile fun run) at 11:00 a.m. is open for all kids, recommended ages is 1-12 years old and each participant will receive a t-shirt with paid entry fee. Kids Color Dash entry fee is $20 thru April 30 and then $25 starting May 1st. If your child is game for running a 5K, sign ‘em up! We do recommend that your kids are properly protected with sunglasses, goggles, hazmat protection or whatever you feel is appropriate! The powdered paint is non-toxic and made mainly of corn starch, but it could irritate the smaller ones.  Sorry, leave the strollers and wagons at home.

Are there age limits?

No way! Everyone is welcome to come have tons of colorful fun at Color the Quads!

What do I get for registering?

Intense joy. And a Color the Quads race shirt, a bag of color, race number and lots of cool stuff from our sponsors. We may even throw in a diamond ring; actually that is highly unlikely so don’t hold your breath.

When is packet pickup?

Thursday, May 19 from 5-8 p.m.; Friday, May 20 at Noon-6 p.m., and Saturday, May 21 at 9-10 a.m. and 1-3 p.m. at the headquarters location in Cumberland Square, Bettendorf at 2304 Spruce Hills Drive, next to Dollar General.

What if I get super excited about this race and then it rains?

Well… Good question. If it rains, no worries!  We have paint and foam to make sure you are still colorful by the end of the race!  Actually, when the powder color gets wet, it is even brighter!  Severe weather, we will look into an alternative. During the registration process you will have to acknowledge that you understand that.

Can I take pictures?

Of course! Bring your camera if you’d like! If you do bring your camera or phone, you might want to bring a plastic bag to keep the color dust off.

Can I bring my family?

Most definitely they can watch! They wouldn't want to miss the craziest color day of your life! However, only race participants wearing their race numbers will be allowed into the fantabulous Tri-City Electric Co. after party race tent. Sorry no strollers or wagon allowed on the course.

Can I refund my registration?

No way! Seriously, no you can't – it's complicated…But, you can still pick up your packet and race goodies.

Can I run with my pet?

Keep Fido home for this one. Sorry, pets are not eligible to participate in Color the Quads.

Will I be timed?

No, but why do you need chip timing when you'll be walking and running through color and foam?

What should I wear?

We encourage ALL participants to wear a white shirt to start the race. White shows the color the best! But leave your designer duds at home – we can't promise that the color will come completely out of your clothes. Then again, why would you want it to?

Will the color or FOAM stain my clothes or shoes?

Maybe, sort of, a little smidge…Actually, it totally depends on how much the volunteers like you. You may get a little color or you may get a lot!
The color does mostly wash out after the event, but some of it can stain. As with anything, the sooner you wash it, the better. We suggest wearing items that you wouldn't mind getting the color on. If you want to preserve the color in your shirt, spray it with vinegar and iron it before you wash it.

Will the color get in my car?

Bring an old towel and you should be fine. However, if you do get some in your vehicle, it can be dusted away or vacuumed easily.
